Gagauzia will mark October 19 as the Day of Remembrance of Famine Victims. The observance commemorates the famine genocide carried out by the Soviet regime against the Gagauz people in 1946-1947 and is dedicated to the victims of that period.
Independent candidate for the bashkan (head) of Gagauzia, Kornel Dudnik, has pledged to carry out a financial, economic and administrative audit of the autonomous region within the first 100 days of his term, should he be elected. He made the commitment as he launched his election campaign.
A vocational and technical education institution in Chadyr-Lunga is among 25 educational establishments in Moldova that are planned for modernisation. The project is part of a large-scale initiative with a total cost of 80 million euros. The report was published in Russian by the Gagauzinfo news outlet.
Diplomacy
Yahya Coşkun, deputy president of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), made a work and introductory visit to Moldova and Gagauzia from 10 to 13 October. He first paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye. On 11 October he visited the Temporary Placement Center for Women and Persons with Disabilities in Hînceşti, where TİKA-funded workshop rooms had been fully renovated and equipped.
Politics
Gagauzia's Central Election Commission (MSS) said that the deadline for candidate nominations for the Gagauzia governor and People's Assembly (GHT) elections, scheduled for 15 November 2026, ended on 6 October. According to a report by the Ana Sözü newspaper, eight candidates were registered for governor.
