Families of ship disaster victims renew call for justice at Kyrenia Court

Suspects in the Filo Jet disaster appeared in court, where families waiting outside Kyrenia Court protested. After the hearing, Dilek Özbiler, who lost her mother Nuray Zeytun Özbiler in the tragedy, made a statement on behalf of the families.

Özbiler argued that negligence caused the accident and asked: “If these people did not die because someone was negligent and careless, why did they die?” She said, “It has been 55 days and we are going around in circles,” expressing frustration with the process. She also questioned why the captain did not turn back despite being told to do so.

Saying their hearts are burning and their wounds will never heal, Özbiler reiterated the families’ demand for justice.
