Ashgabat marks UN Day with ceremony at UN building in Turkmenistan

A ceremony marking United Nations Day was held on 23 October 2026 at the UN building in Ashgabat. The day is observed each year on 24 October, the anniversary of the UN Charter's entry into force. The event was organised by the UN Resident Coordinator's office in Turkmenistan with support from the Foreign Ministry.

Deputy Foreign Minister Mähri Bäşimowa and UN Resident Coordinator Greys Wang addressed the opening. Speakers stressed the UN's key role in global peace, security, international cooperation and sustainable development.

Turkmenistan's long-standing strategic partnership with the UN was highlighted, covering areas such as ecology, transport, energy and human rights. The event reaffirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to the UN Charter and to continued cooperation with the organisation.
