Huge truck queues at border crossings toward Turkey

The Border Police General Directorate reported extremely heavy traffic at the Kapitan Andreevo and Lesovo border crossings on Friday, 16 October 2026, caused by freight vehicles trying to exit toward Turkey. Traffic at all other crossings with Greece, North Macedonia, Serbia and Romania is flowing normally.

Rain on 16 October and wet road surfaces mean drivers need to slow down and increase their following distances. According to a statement from the Traffic Police, 21 serious road accidents across the country in the last 24 hours left 18 people injured. It was the second consecutive day with no road deaths.

Since the start of the month, 26 people have died and 430 have been injured in traffic accidents. Since the beginning of the year, the number of road deaths has reached 392 and the number of injured has reached 6,832.
