Minnikhanov: Partnership with India goes far beyond trade turnover figures

Tatarstan's head Rustam Minnikhanov spoke at the plenary session of the II Russia-India business forum "TAYM" in Kazan and said significant progress has been made in cooperation between Tatarstan and India. He noted that mutual trade is growing at an accelerated pace this year, but that supplies of raw materials and primary-sector products still make up the larger share.

Minnikhanov said the partnership has much broader potential and that there are opportunities to move toward deeper cooperation in production, investment and technology, given that leading industrial enterprises in Tatarstan have already built experience working with Indian partners. He cited a Indian film festival, a demonstration of UNESCO cultural heritage and a friendly cricket match held during the forum as evidence that the relationship is wider than trade figures alone. He also said projects close to implementation would be of interest to the country.
