Azerbaijan's CICA chairmanship called an important step in institutional development

Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) has been described as an important stage in the organisation's institutional development. Political scientist Azer Garayev, speaking to Trend and cited by Day.Az, said the VII Summit held in Baku on October 15 showed Azerbaijan's results and confirmed the country's growing role in regional processes.

Garayev said Azerbaijan's chairmanship priorities for 2024-2026 are defined by the slogan 'Strengthening CICA: Connectivity, Digitalization and Sustainable Growth in Asia'. He noted that Laos was accepted as a new member state and that Azerbaijan's chairmanship was extended by two years.

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Israeli President Isaac Herzog also praised Azerbaijan's work. Garayev said the Baku Declaration emphasises respect for international law, sovereignty and territorial integrity, peaceful settlement of disputes, security and economic cooperation.
