Kazakhstan hosts ICAO Secretary General for first time

International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar arrived in Astana on his first official visit, accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Cardona, the Civil Aviation Committee (KGA) reported. At the airport, he was met by Deputy Minister of Transport Talgat Lastayev. The visit is Salazar's first to Central Asian countries.

During the visit, Salazar will take part in ICAO Security Week 2026, which will be held in Astana on October 20–22. It is the first time Kazakhstan is hosting this major international event, which brings together heads of aviation authorities, representatives of international organizations, airlines, airports and leading industry experts.

The visit and the event reflect high trust from the international aviation community and recognition of Kazakhstan's achievements in aviation security. The outcomes of the meeting are expected to strengthen the global aviation security system and support joint approaches to modern threats.
