YDP to set candidate list through party assembly on Sunday

Yeniden Doğuş Partisi (YDP) leader Erhan Arıklı has announced that the candidates and their rankings for upcoming parliamentary elections in Northern Cyprus will be decided by the party's 107-member party assembly.

In a written statement, Arıklı said the party assembly will meet on Sunday. The meeting will consider reducing the 83 applicants to 50 and the authority to decide the order of the candidate list. Arıklı said the assembly wishes to take on both responsibilities, and that the party respects this will.

Arıklı said intra-party democracy should not remain only on paper. As party leader, he stressed that his role is to stand behind the assembly's decisions, saying: “Güçlü parti, güçlü kurumlarla olur. Son söz parti meclisinin, takdir milletimizindir.”
