Azerbaijan Welcomes Move to Nominate Feridun Sinirlioglu for UN Secretary-General

Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry said it welcomes the initiative to nominate Ambassador Feridun Sinirlioglu, currently Secretary General of the OSCE, as a candidate for the post of United Nations Secretary-General.

The ministry stressed again the importance of the selection process for the UN Secretary-General. It said the process should be based on candidates' professional qualities, international and diplomatic experience, impartiality and ability to build consensus among member states, guided by the principles and purposes of the UN Charter.

The ministry said it believes that ongoing consultations and constructive dialogue among member states will lead to a relevant decision that strengthens the UN's capacity to respond more effectively to contemporary global challenges.
