The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Republic of Karakalpakstan on Wednesday signed an updated memorandum of understanding to promote the region's socio-economic development. The document was signed by Kanokpan Lao-Arai, director of the ADB Resident Mission in Uzbekistan, and Azhiniyaz Kaipnazarov, deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev supported the reconciliation process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, saying the example of the South Caucasus clearly shows what results farsighted leadership can achieve. Tokayev said the rapprochement, after decades of deep disagreements, opens new prospects and creates opportunities to build bridges between East and West.
On 15 October, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. During the talks, both sides expressed satisfaction with the successful development of strategic partnership and allied relations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. The leaders noted that visits by the heads of state had made an important contribution to expanding bilateral cooperation.
Transport & Infrastructure
Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan have exchanged a signed agreement on cooperation for the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the Middle Corridor. The exchange was between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Kazakhstan aims to raise its transit cargo volume to 100 million tonnes a year. According to plans discussed at Kazakhstan Transport Week in Astana, the capacity of its sea ports will be quadrupled and the capacity of its fleet increased fivefold by 2035.
President Ilham Aliyev told a limited-format meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States that Azerbaijan has built its modern transport and logistics infrastructure practically from scratch. He said the country is consolidating its position as one of the region's key transport hubs, providing reliable transit along the North-South and East-West international corridors.
China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed that Azerbaijan is a state with an important position on the Middle Corridor. Report.az reported that he made this remark during a meeting with President Ilham Aliyev, held as part of his visit to Azerbaijan.
President Ilham Aliyev received Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, on October 14. Aliyev recalled his state visit to China, his meetings with President Xi Jinping and the adoption of the Joint Statement on Strategic Partnership, noting that bilateral relations had reached a new level.

Baku will host the VII Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), which Azerbaijan chairs. Heads of state and government of member states, along with representatives of observer states and partner organisations, have been invited. Writing in Day.Az, deputy editor-in-chief Ali Gasymov says the summit will allow Baku to expand dialogue with Asian states, promote its own initiatives and strengthen its role in international processes.
The 5th Meeting of the High-Level Group of the DARYA Regional Programme opened in Ashgabat on 13 October 2026. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the meeting focuses on skills development in the context of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor.
