Target 2027: State to cover university tuition for TRNC citizens

Ulusal Birlik Partisi (UBP) leader and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel announced that, as in European Union countries and Turkey, the TRNC will offer young people free university education. Üstel said the policy, to be implemented in 2027, will support young people's education while easing the economic burden on families.

According to Üstel, from 2027 the state will cover the full university tuition of TRNC citizen students placed in TRNC universities through an exam conducted by the Ministry of National Education. TRNC citizen students already studying at universities with a grade point average of 3.00 or higher will also benefit from the support.

Üstel acknowledged the sacrifices parents make to educate their children and said the government wants to share the burden of tuition paid each semester on family budgets. He said he wants young people to continue their education in their own country with less financial worry, adding: "Every support given to our young people's education is an investment in the future of our country."
