Disinformation Combating Center warns against posts on Eastern Mediterranean and Libya maritime deal

The Disinformation Combating Center (DMM) said Türkiye continues to resolutely protect its legitimate rights in the Eastern Mediterranean and urged people not to give credence to baseless posts that distort the maritime jurisdiction agreement with Libya.

In a statement posted on DMM's social media account, the center said claims on some social media accounts that Türkiye is destabilising the Eastern Mediterranean through its agreement with Libya are clear disinformation aimed at manipulating public opinion. The agreement, signed by two sovereign states to protect their legitimate rights, passed the approval processes of the parties and entered into force in full compliance with international law and principles of equity.

The statement said that actors seeking to turn the Eastern Mediterranean into an area of conflict, and carrying out unlawful acts in maritime zones where they are not parties, are trying to cover up their own violations by targeting Türkiye. It added that Türkiye remains committed to peace, stability and equity in the region.
