Uzbekistan to Complete Foundation Pouring for Small Nuclear Power Units in 2026
Concrete pouring for the foundation slab of two small power units at a nuclear plant in Uzbekistan is planned for completion by the end of 2026, Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev told journalists, according to TASS. The units use RITM-200 reactors of 55 MW each and are part of an integrated nuclear power plant project in Jizzakh region.
Likhachev visited the site, where concrete pouring for the first unit's foundation slab began on June 4, 2026, according to Rosatom. Concreting of the reactor building base is ongoing, with 25 units of machinery involved. Completing the reactor compartment slab of the first unit will require 10,000 cubic metres of concrete.
In 2027, construction of the main buildings of the small units, including reactor vessels, control buildings and turbine halls, is planned to begin. The integrated plant will also include two 1,000 MW units and is expected to produce 17.2 billion kWh of electricity per year at design capacity.
